Moraira Photos. Moraira Village and Beach, El Portet Village and Beach Costa Blanca Spain

Costa Blanca Property

These photos were taken at the end of January and show you more of Moraira and it's urban areas with it's beaches and bays. Moraira comprises of urbanizations with quiet residential streets and a village centre of low rise apartments beside the sea and port. Click on the link if you want to see a specific urbanization.

Moraira Village and Urbanizations: Moraira Village and Beach, Portet Village and Beach   San Jaime, Cap Blanc, Moravit  Pla del Mar, Partida el Port, Arnella   Pinar de l'Advocat, Alcasar, Paichi, Sabatera

Moraira village is situated on the coast with an inland road to Teulada and Benissa and a coast road to Calpe. Originally only a group of fishermen's cottages it is now almost a small town centered on the Moraira-Teulada urbanizations and providing bars, shops, restaurants and nautical services. The population increases greatly in summer with visitors from throughout Europe who occupy their own and rental villas. Apartments are located in the village centre and have year round residents. enlarge

Moraira Sports Harbour and Yacht Club with 620 berths is directly beside the village. It has a sailing school, repair yard, shop, clubhouse and restaurant. Moraira also has a small fleet of fishing boats that use the same harbour and go out at night to provide the local restaurants with their large boxes of fresh fish. Other harbours in the area are Calpe Yacht Club and Port under the Peñon de Ifach and the Puerto Deportivo Luis Campomanes at Mascarat near Altea. In stormy weather ships will sometimes shelter in the Moraira or El Portet bays. enlarge

A view of the 18th Century Moraira tower situated on a small promontary beside the village and the beach. It has recently been restored and is a reminder of the days when the Costa Blanca coast was regularly attacked by Barbary pirates. On the nearby Cap d'Or headland there is a watchtower dating from the 16th Century. This particular tower features in one of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin novels (captured by Captain Aubrey). In the background are the Olta mountain of Calpe and the Sierra Bernia that divides Calpe from Altea. Moraira is still well wooded with pine forests despite being fully urbanized. enlarge

The photo shows Moraira village and tower from the beach side and the new beachside walkway with palm trees and a children's play area. Ampolla beach is one of Moraira's four blue flag beaches. The others are beside the port, Platgetes beside this one and El Portet. Like all the Costa Blanca blue flag beaches it is kept perfectly   clean for use each day and has bars, a restaurant and a Red Cross cabin. enlarge

El Portet can be found in the next bay along from Moraira and is more a group of beach houses than a village. Neverthless there is a fairly large urban area behind it comprising the Partida El Port and the Partida Arnella. These are reached by following the Camino de la Viuda that starts right El Portet itself. A number of bars and restaurants line the El Portet seafront, most notably the gourmet restaurant "El Daufin".  Portet beach is a popular summer destination for families with small children because of its shallow water and gentle slope. Parking here in summer can be a little tricky.  enlarge
